Whether you're experiencing shoulder pain from a recent auto or industrial accident, or if you have been dealing with chronic pain in your shoulder for a while, our chiropractor can help. We at Allied Chiropractic, Sports Rehab & Whole Health Center in Plainville, MA, know a lot about shoulder pain. Here are a few things to know before scheduling your first chiropractor appointment.
Spinal Alignment with Chiropractic Care
The pain you feel in your shoulder is typically the result of a misalignment of the muscles in your shoulder and your spine. In a healthy person the muscles of the body each have a proper position.
This allows a person to have a full range of motion and live pain free. Sometimes these muscles become misaligned, however. This can occur as the result of a massive force, such as that received in an auto accident, or through gradual changes over time. When this happens, however, the muscles will put additional pressure on the nerves. That pressure will cause them to send pain signals to the brain.
To fix the problem, our chiropractor works to restore the muscles of the back and shoulder to their proper positions. This is done through a series of special movements that will slowly move the muscles over time.
The First Chiropractic Care Appointment with Our Chiropractor
At the first appointment, after taking an extensive medical history and a physical exam of the affected area, our chiropractor will work with the patient to develop a treatment plan. This plan will usually take several weeks or months to fully carry out, but pain relief will usually start right away.
At the end of the first appointment, our chiropractor will perform the first treatment. Even this initial small movement of the muscles will alleviate some pressure from the nerves in the shoulder, neck and back. Patients often leave reporting that they feel a lot better.
Over the next several hours or days, the muscles in the affected area will try to move back to the spots that they have become accustomed to being in. As this happens, the pain will gradually return. To fix this, have our chiropractor perform another treatment.
After a few weeks, the muscles will stay in their proper positions for longer and longer periods of time. As this happens the patient may become pain free for longer stretches.
